My husband recently read the book, “41: A Portrait of My Father” about George H.W. Bush, written by his son, George W. Bush. George H.W. Bush is an inspiration, I don’t care if you agree with his politics or not. As a person, he is an inspiration. For someone to live the full life that he has lived, meanwhile raising a family that is so full of love, that’s impressive. To celebrate 50 years of marriage, (all the married people out there say, IMPRESSIVE!) To go from being in the center of it all, to being in a wheelchair with grace and dignity, again…impressive. To embrace the man you lost the presidency to, impressive. To make the commitment to never bash a serving president (& stick with it), impressive.
My husband shared the following story with me. When George H.W. Bush became wheelchair bound, he decided that the first thing that people would see about him are his socks, because they are so prominent when you are in a wheelchair. He decided to wear the craziest, wildest socks he could find. Instead of fighting what he had, he embraced it. Instead of being bitter about being wheelchair bound, he embraced the season of life he was in and made it something special. What an inspiration!
How many times have you seen someone embrace the situation they are in and make the most of it? It’s a beautiful thing! Watch someone embrace their body type…it makes them more attractive and more enjoyable to be around! Or, the mom of young children, that still has friends over in her less than perfect (or not so clean) home? We can all learn to make the most of our situation.
Please share in the comments below what situation you are embracing. I would love to hear from you. You will be an encouragement to our community of readers.
Put on your crazy socks, Kristen
