This morning, I was exercising and almost to the end of my workout. I was doing a killer legs, abs and buns workout. (tmi?) At the end, I was seriously in pain and wanted to skip the last few exercises. But, there sat my sweet little daughter, watching me. And all my lectures of not being a quitter when things get hard, came right back to me. I have been preaching this same sermon over and over to my kids. Don’t ya just love it when your words come full circle?
4 things to consider when you feel like quitting:
1. Push through the pain.
Would you quit if you were on national television? If not, then don’t quit when you are in the privacy of your home. Character is all about who you are in private.
2. Great progress is not made in huge leaps, but in small, daily practice.
When I teach my kids spelling, I don’t do it in a huge marathon cram session! It’s broken down into bite-sized pieces, something they can learn and remember in a short period of time. Ask yourself, am I trying to do to much at one time? Do I have unrealistic expectations?
3. Do what NO ONE wants to do, pretty soon you will be doing what EVERYONE wants to do.
When I was training for the marathon, I would get up at 5 a.m. to get my run in before my family woke up. No one in their right mind WANTS to do that! 🙂 But, on race day, there were many people who wished they had worked hard enough throughout the year to be able to run.
4. Consider the example you are to those around you.
That little girl of mine is watching me, so I am not going to quit for her sake…or for mine!
