This coming Sunday is the Oscars! It’s not to late to plan a fun party with some friends. This Oscars Party Menu is super easy to whip together. Here are a few ideas for snacks that include a whole lot of vegetables and a little bit of bacon. (I wouldn’t mind reversing that, a whole lotta bacon and a little bit of veggies, but maybe another time. :))
OSCAR’S PARTY MENU:
- Plate of fresh vegetables
- Fried zucchini fritters
- Bacon-wrapped dates
- Chocolate fondue (or if you have one, a chocolate fountain!)
- Your favorite bubbly!
To plate fresh vegetables, cut into sizes that are easy to pick up, squeeze fresh lemon juice over all the vegetables, sprinkle a bit of chunky salt and serve with a bit of olive oil. You can use any mix of vegetables; carrots, broccoli, green onions, cucumbers or whatever looks great at the store.
To make bacon-wrapped dates, use pitted dates, wrap in bacon. Broil until bacon is done. These are sweet and salty, my favorite combo!
Chocolate fondue or a chocolate fountain is a super easy way to have a dessert without having to cook a thing! And, it just seems fancy! Purchase skewers, fresh fruit, marshmallows, large pretzel rods, Nutter Butter cookies, and anything else you like dipped in chocolate. I could go for bacon. 🙂 Do you notice a theme in this post? 🙂 (The nice thing about this option is if you have someone with food allergies of any sort, they can almost always eat the fruit. Gluten-free people can eat the fruit and marshmallows. The nut-free people can eat it all but the Nutter-Butters. Poor them!)
You can purchase a great chocolate fountain on Amazon, like these options:
One of my my best friend, Heidi’s favorite snacks is a zucchini fritter. If you are following a paleo diet, this is perfect!
- 2 zucchinis, grated
- 1 spaghetti squash
- 3-4 Tbs. flour
- 6 slices of bacon
- 2 green onions
- 2 eggs
- Salt & pepper
- Coconut oil
- Greek Yogurt
- To make the zucchini fritters, grate up two zucchini and a small spaghetti squash. Microwave to cook the squash. Scoop the strings out, add zucchini and squash to a kitchen towel and squeeze out the liquids. Add to a bowl and sprinkle with a little flour. Fry up 6 strips of bacon and chop. Cut up a couple of green onions, two eggs, salt and pepper and mix into the squash/zucchini mixture. Form into patties and fry in coconut oil (or your leftover bacon grease), preferably in a cast iron skillet. When browned on each side, drain the fritters on paper towels. Plate and serve them with Greek yogurt and chopped green parts of green onions.
Open a bottle of bubbly and enjoy!
Tip Jar: you do not need to buy expensive champagne instead grab a cava or prosecco for about $10, add a little bit of St. Germaine and toast the Oscars!
