Did you get all caught up in the New Year’s Resolution-making and decided this is the year you are going to get fit? Good for you! You can do it! Even if you have failed before, you can do it! Here are a few do’s & don’ts to get you started.
find a friend to work out with & hold you accountable.
get up a half an hour earlier and work out while the kids are asleep. Trust me on this one!
invest in a Fitbit, Garmin, or Nike Fuelband. These are super encouraging! These encourage you to get more activity into your daily routine. Your body takes everything into account, not just the 1/2 hour you are “working out.” The activity monitor does, too!
begin tracking what you eat. You’ll be surprised.
give yourself a reward each time you exercise. (i.e. a small piece of chocolate) It’s a proven fact that people stay with their routines when immediately rewarded afterward.
sign up for trainer or a gym membership. You don’t need it and it is just another excuse we use to not work out. “I don’t have time/money/interest in going to the gym.”
begin working out an hour a day. You will kill yourself and any good mo-jo you may have built up. Begin by taking a BRISK 15 minute walk in the morning. Then, add a 15 minute workout to that routine. It really doesn’t take a ton of time for your body to notice you are doing something different.
perform the same workout everyday. Your body gets very adept at making things easy for you. I mix up my workout by doing different workouts each day to keep my body confused. (& my brain, but that’s another story. 🙂
Blessings on keeping your New Years Resolutions! Kristen
