I have a friend that is so organized, she reorganizes her Christmas decorations multiple times during the year. I love home organization, but some people come by it naturally, like my friend. The rest of us just have to learn from others. Sometimes, it is overwhelming to think about all the cupboards and closets that need to be organized. You just need to corral something that is driving you crazy…like, receipts, power cords, and messy bathroom drawers…etc. That’s what this post is for, to help us get some of our crazy under clutter-control quickly and easily. If you tackled all of these projects, it would take you less than an hour to implement. How about that? My hotspots under control in an hour? I’m in!
5. Receipt Organization
I have battled with saving receipts. Should I save them all? Save just the important ones? Since we do a cash budget, we have a weekly finance printable (click here if you would like to download it!) where we enter every receipt. Sometimes when I am busy, they begin piling up in my binder. But, at least they are all there and I deal with them at least weekly. My preferred method is cleaning them out of my purse or spending envelopes at the end of each day, entering onto my weekly receipt form and then tossing. I have a simple receipt file where I save the big purchase receipts. My future goal is to go completely paperless and scan the receipts that I need to save into my computer.
4. Toothbrush Organization
There is something about toothbrushes that totally grosses me out. This is my dilemma, I can’t put them in a cute cup on top of the sink, because then when the toilet flushes those germs spray all over the toothbrushes. Yuck! Then, putting them in a drawer with other peoples germy toothbrushes is gross and you end up with white toothpaste goo all over the drawer. I will admit, this idea is not very “sexy”, but I am loving it! It keeps all your toothbrushes SEPARATE. It’s easy to clean as well. Nice. (I picked this organizer up in office organization at Wal-Mart, but a kitchen flatware organizer would work perfectly as well.)
3. Kid’s Artwork Album
I am a sentimental keeper. When it comes to the kids artwork, I keep EVERYTHING. Seriously, EVERYTHING. So, my resolution is to get all that clutter corralled into a darling little Shutterfly books for each kid. Such an easy process:
1. Scan your favorite pieces of their artwork onto your computer.
2. Upload the images to Shutterfly, Snapfish, etc…
3. Shutterfly will actually make the album for you and then you have the option of changing it around if like.
4. Botta-bing! You can now safely stow the piles of artwork in the garbage. (Just don’t let your kids see you doing that! 🙂
2. Hide the Cords!!
At this very moment under my vanity, I have a rebel blow-dryer cord that loves to tangle itself underneath my chair (and around my feet). No matter how many times I push it against the wall, it’s tripping me up and driving me crazy. Cord, you have met your match.
1. Daily Chores Chart
I found this chore chart at My 3 Monsters and wanted to share it with you. If you are like me and battle getting your regular house cleaning done, let alone any deep cleaning, you’ve gotta try this chart. I love that there is a time limit to 30 MINUTES. That means every area in my house gets 30 minutes of my attention each week. If you think that isn’t long enough, time yourself and see how much you can get done in 30 minutes. (It’s better than feeling overwhelmed and not doing any of it! 🙂
BONUS IDEA!!! Stuffed Animal Storage
Ok, just one more little cutie…do you have a bunch of stuffed animals? Here is an easy way to keep them off the floor, which is always a good goal. Just use one side of Velcro tape, tape it to the wall (it could damage paint, so maybe a closet would be better? Then, stick that little stuffed animal onto the Velcro. Easy!
