This year I want to give my kids some specific gifts that are going to help them throughout their lives. These are not gifts that I can wrap up in a bow, but rather they are practical life skills. “Train up a child in the way they can go and when they are old they will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 – This has become our parenting mantra lately. Our kids are 9 and 6, so we are in full-on training mode…how to do the dishes, how to be kind, how to communicate your feelings, how to blow your nose. 🙂 (That last one is a longer process Than I had anticipated! Lol)
The first life skill we are working on is regular devotional time in the morning. I love evening family devo time, but as life goes on, it will be important for them to initiate their own devo time. From my own personal experience, if you don’t do it first thing in the morning, it is all too easy to let it slip.
Generally, we are all snuggled up together in bed doing our own devotions. The most important thing is to give them a resource that engages them, keeps their interest and is on their level intellectually.
My 9 year old son loves “The Action Bible”. Awesome pictures and thick enough to last for a good while. The comic book format is incredibly well done.
My daughter is 6, she is a beginning reader, so I found her a few Bible apps that read the Bible to her, sweet pictures included. (currently using God’s Love : iPad read aloud book.)
I would love to hear more resources that you have! Please share in the comments below. Blessings, Kristen
