I’ve drooled over the Pottery Barn backpack stations with a place for shoes, coats and backpacks all in a gorgeous mahogany. drooolllll…. But, what are the rest of us supposed to do if we don’t have the space, the desire or the dinero for such a contraption?
I shopped my house and used some cute cork and magnetic boards we previously used in our school room. All this is crammed into a pretty tiny, slanted corner, if you can see that from the picture. I love carving out a big use for a small space!
These were my needs:
- a place for the bulky backpacks
- a calendar for the kids to be able to see what was coming up
- a place where we can communicate about school
- a spot to store schedules, papers to be turned in, tickets, invitations, etc.
- And, I wanted all this to be located where they couldn’t miss it…RIGHT by their backpacks.
All these boards were purchased at Target last year. The brand name is Board Dudes. They were $10-$12 a pc. Compare that with the pottery barn set starting at $400…you’ll be happy you DIY’d it! 🙂
Here’s the view from farther back. This is a long, narrow entry from our garage. This room also holds our laundry as well. The storage is awesome because we are able to keep all our coats, hats, gloves, boots and shoes in this room. This is one hard-working room! 🙂
