Have you ever watched a hilarious, fantastic movie that you couldn’t wait to share with friends and family. Then, you sit down with said friends and family to rewatch the movie and become totally mortified by all the sexual innuendos or crude language? Ugg, me too! Isn’t it totes embarrassing?! 🙂
Or, have you taken your family out for an easy movie night out, only to have to leave the movie theater? Check, done that, too. We’ve been forced to walk out not because we are being hyper-sensitive or judgmental, but generally shocked by the content. The balancing act comes from trying not to have to explain weird stuff to my kids and being culturally relevant. We don’t live in a bubble, but I also don’t need to expose them to things they are too young to process.
If you are like me and would like a heads up on what you are preparing to see, why don’t you check out Focus on the Family’s Plugged In movie reviews? They are awesome! They actually rate the movies for children, teens and adults. They give the low-down on what you are going to see. Is it too violent for a child, but appropriate for me? They will let you know. They don’t approve only christian or G movies, either. They review all the movies being released in the theaters.
Note the rating for BIG HERO 6. They give it 4 1/2 out of 5 plug-ins. 🙂 Caution content is at green for all age-groups. Looks like a safe bet.
Also, if you are looking to do a movie night for your church or family, they have Movie Night resources loaded with great conversation starters. They will pick three or four major themes, give you open-ended questions and thoughts on these themes. They also tie it back to a scripture, which is the icing on the cupcake, or the butter on the popcorn…I’m going to stop now. 🙂
Here are a few examples of the Movie Night Resources for BIG HERO 6:
